For this project, we were tasked with redesigning Anniesland Station, a small communter train stop just outside of central Glasgow.
We opted to focus on social issues found in Glasgow, especially lonliness found in pensioners in the local area. We’ve decided to create small ‘pods’ inside recycled telephone boxes which will allow commuters to communicate with people in the retirement homes via screens.
From this, we decided that the building itself, and the surrounding area should have a modern look, with the aim that if there’s a modern station in the community, the area surrounding will eventually go through the gentrification process.
The inside telephone boxes act as an art installation, so we created a blank slate with white walls and a polished concrete floor.  The large skylights and floor to ceiling windows allow for natural light to reflect around the room, opening the space up.
